I posted pictures just recently of a very dry Lake George. The pic above was taken yesterday, after Canberra recorded 104mm of rain over three days. The last time Canberra got rain like that was 2002. Still a long, long way to go before anything like a lake reappears, but after being dry for so long, this giant puddle was enough to attract a steady stream of motorists to the lookout.

July 9, 2008It’s been cold and wet in Canberra the last couple of days – so the obvious thing to do was to get out and about! I’ve been staying with a friend in Cook, so went for a walk up nearby Mt. Painter. Came across an area where tussocks of grass had been up rooted and left scattered about – could there be a wombat about? Something else? Fairly sure it wasn’t human activity. Anyway, as some cold rain started to blow in off the mountains, I made a funny grass man.
